Aircon Chemical Overhaul in Punggol
A chemical overhaul is the deepest clean an aircon fan coil can get: the unit is dismantled, and the coil, blower wheel, drainage tray and casing are removed and chemically cleaned individually before reassembly. It costs $160 per unit, and to be blunt — most aircons don't need it. This page explains when an overhaul is genuinely the right call, and when a $90 chemical wash will do the same job for less.
When an overhaul is the right call
You're an overhaul candidate if: the unit has gone years without deep cleaning (common in resale flats where the previous owner's habits are unknown), mould is visibly caked through the blower wheel, smells and leaks came back shortly after a chemical wash, or cooling remains poor after both servicing and a wash. In these cases the grime is packed into places an in-place wash can't reach, and dismantling is the only way to truly reset the unit.
What the $160 covers
The technician removes the fan coil internals — evaporator coil, blower wheel, drain tray — and cleans each component with chemical solution outside the unit, where every surface can be reached and rinsed properly. The drainage pipe is flushed, filters and covers washed, everything reassembled, gas pressure checked, and the unit test-run. You receive photos throughout, including the parts before and after cleaning, so you can see exactly what you paid for.
Overhaul vs chemical wash: the honest comparison
A chemical wash ($90) cleans the coil and blower in place — effective for the typical once-a-year deep clean. An overhaul ($160) removes and cleans components individually — effective for heavily fouled units. If your aircon is serviced regularly and just started smelling, book the wash. If we arrive for a wash and find the unit is too far gone for it to work, we'll show you why and let you decide on upgrading — we don't quietly do the cheaper job knowing it won't hold.
A note for resale flat buyers in Punggol
Punggol's earlier BTO estates are now old enough that resale transactions are common. If you've just collected keys to a resale flat, an overhaul on the existing units is often the best money you'll spend on them — you clear out years of someone else's dust and mould and start your own quarterly servicing routine from a genuinely clean baseline. We log the overhaul in the unit's service history, so future visits track from day one.
Timing, booking and payment
Allow around 1.5 to 2 hours per unit — dismantling and reassembly take time to do properly, so overhaul slots are longer than servicing slots. Doing several units the same day? The second unit onwards is discounted about 25%. Reserve via /book or WhatsApp; because the work takes a while, morning slots suit most households. Nothing to pay upfront — settle by PayNow or cash after you've inspected the result, and rescheduling is free up to 4 hours out.
Frequently asked questions
Is a chemical overhaul worth it, or should I just replace the unit?
If the compressor and electronics are healthy and the problem is dirt, smell or weak cooling, a $160 overhaul typically restores near-original performance for a fraction of a new unit's cost. If the unit is very old or has failing parts, we'll say so during diagnosis rather than sell you an overhaul on a dying aircon.
How long does an overhaul take?
Roughly 1.5 to 2 hours per unit, since the fan coil is dismantled, each part is chemically cleaned and rinsed, and everything is reassembled and tested. A multi-unit overhaul is usually scheduled with enough buffer to do every unit properly.
Will an overhaul stop my aircon from leaking?
If the leak comes from a fouled coil or blocked drainage — which is the usual cause — yes, because both are stripped and cleaned. If the leak is from a damaged or badly-sloped drain pipe, that's a repair issue, and we'll identify it during the overhaul and quote it separately.
How often does an aircon need an overhaul?
With quarterly general servicing and an annual chemical wash, many units never need one. Overhauls are for recovery — a neglected unit, a resale flat, or persistent problems — not a routine you should be paying for every year.
